It typically takes several weeks to a few months to go through the whole process.
Initial Visit
First, you need to establish that dentures are the right choice for you. Dr. Genninger will sit down for a consultation and examination. You may need dentures if you already have missing teeth or your remaining teeth are in bad shape.
Extractions and Preparation
The next step is to prepare your mouth for the prosthesis. This means extracting any teeth that are severely damaged and will fall out soon anyway. Dr. Genninger will also take measurements of your mouth so that your custom prosthodontic can be made.
Post-Op, Temporary Dentures, and Dentures Design
After any extractions are made, you may receive temporary dentures to help you through the next several weeks as your mouth heals. It is during this time that your more permanent dentures will be designed. The shape of your mouth is likely to change a bit after the extractions and once gums have healed.
Placement and Practice
One of your last visits will involve learning how to place your dentures in your mouth and practicing speaking and eating. This will take some time to get used to, so be ready with some patience as you learn how to move your mouth with the dentures in it.
