Having discolored or misshapen teeth can make it difficult for some people to smile. Luckily, cosmetic dental procedures available from your dentist in Tampa, FL, such as veneers, make it possible to refine the look of your teeth without invasive surgery. Dr. Douglas G. Genninger and the team at Genninger Dental. Although they are a common treatment option, you may not know everything involved with the veneers procedure.
X-Rays
Our team may begin with X-rays to examine the state of your tooth enamel and decide how to proceed with the veneers. We will help you determine if this is the right course of treatment for you.
Trimming
After deciding to proceed with the veneers, Dr. Genninger will first need to trim your natural teeth to make room for the composite or porcelain shells that will be bonded to them. These shells are extremely thin, but you will likely notice even the smallest of additions to your teeth.
Impressions
After the front of your teeth have been trimmed sufficiently, we will take impressions or molds of your teeth. This is sent to the lab where your veneers are custom made to fit your teeth. We can also adjust the color of the veneers to your liking and to make them look like your natural teeth.
Placement
The next step is to place the shells on the teeth using a special bond. This is sometimes done in a separate visit. We will also help you understand how to care for your veneers, namely by maintaining a good oral hygiene routine of flossing and brushing your teeth twice daily. It will also be important to keep your regular dental checkups.
Follow-up
Your follow-up appointments will help Dr. Genninger make sure the placement of the shells was a success. It is important to you keep your immediate follow-up visits to ensure the success of your veneers treatment.
