Traditional Crowns
Traditionally, crowns are placed in several appointments. First, the tooth is prepped for the procedure and all infection and debris is removed. After that is done, a mold is made of the restorative tooth and sent to the lab for construction. While you are waiting for that tooth to be constructed, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth for several weeks. The temporary crown protects the tooth but is not meant to be a permanent solution.
With traditional crowns, the final tooth is placed after about two weeks, when the tooth has come back from the lab. New dental technology has allowed for Dr. Genninger to offer patients the option of CEREC dental crowns, which can be completed all in the same day.
The CEREC machine is in the office, and the permanent tooth can be made in house rather than sent out to a lab for construction. This means that in just a few short hours, you can have a permanent restoration that exactly matches the rest of your natural teeth.
